Electronic mail is the main medium used for communication of a commercial message or fundraising to a group of people. This is achieved through email marketing. In fact, every single mail sent to a customer, be it current or potential, can be called as email marketing. Any mail sent to customers comes under email marketing though it usually means sending emails with an intention to encourage customer loyalty or for requesting the customer to continue his business. It is also used for gaining more customers and convincing the old customers to purchase. They are asked for adding advertisements to other companies who are interested to send it to the customers.

There are a lot of reasons and thinking behind the company’s idea to market through email. Firstly, email is very cheap and the mailing lists can enable effective distribution of information to a lot of people. It is certainly cheaper than direct mail or printed newsletters. Most of the people use the internet every day and check their mails regularly. And also, a mail takes hardly any time to reach the other person. Related messages are sent by specific interaction of the messages. And moreover, emails help to save paper.

Spam is the only thing you have to fear about while using email. There are a lot of companies which do unsolicited bulk mailing using the name legitimate marketing. Most people refuse to understand the concept of spam and illegitimate marketing. They tend to delete emails thinking it is spam mail. So it is very essential for them to know what exactly spam mails are. There is a necessity now to use spam filters to get rid of these spasm. Sometimes these have to scan even the original commercial emails to find the scam and delete it.

Companies interested to advertise their products through email marketing have to get used to spasm and deleting them. Spam law has to be followed and sometimes despite this the internet administrators find fault with the company.

The CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 came into effect as a result of all this. It said that any marketer who wants to market through email or the internet has to use software which does justice to the Act. The Act demands the marketer to show details like physical address, return address and things like one-click to unsubscribe.

The opt-in email is commonly used these days as a tool to overcome disadvantages of the email marketing. Taking into consideration the consent of the other person, opt-in email is sent to promote the advertisement. A firm might send its newsletters regarding its products and events. Opt-in email is used in such a case. Customers are made to send consent to receive this newsletter when they are interested to purchase.

Opt-in email form is made easier by email marketing. This was developed just to make opt-in popular and easier. This computer application allows you to send bulk mails to the recipients. Companies send promotional newsletters and materials to various subscribers. But often, the software is liable to spam.

Software helps to import customer lists and tracking when specific advertisements have opened its account. Handling of the bounce backs and automatic unsubscribe are also done using this. Basically, the software makes the business advertisements look very professional.
