Sharing files and patient documents with Medical records software

When you work in a doctor’s office you know how difficult it is to share your patient’s information with other doctors. If you do not work in a doctor’s office you are probably wondering why doctors would want to share patient information with other doctors. Well there are many reasons for this. Another doctor would need a patients file if that particular patient transferred to another doctor after moving. Another doctor will also need a patients file if that patient if on vacation in another state or country. A doctor will always need more information about a patient’s medical history, and current medical state, which is why he or she will need to have a background file from the patient’s regular doctor, or previous doctor. In the old days the doctor might send information via mail, or via phone, or might use a horse and carriage to get the information from point A to point B. When fax machines were invented, the fax machine became a way to relay information back and forth or emergency purposes, but medical offices still had to copy the existing chart and mail or Fedex them to another office.

In many cases a doctor would need urgent information, like in life threatening situation, when a patient has been in an accident, or has come over something severe like with a life threatening illness. In a case like this the chart needs to be sent quickly, and efficiently. And most of the times a fax machine will not do the job, as the print quality sometimes come out illegible, which poses a big risk to the doctors, as they potentially might misdiagnose what is wrong with the patient.

What they will need to use, is technology called Electronic Medical Records Software, or EMR software. This software is very helpful, when it comes to sending patient information from doctor to doctor, whether it is a general practitioner or a surgeon. The reason for that, is because all the files, of all the patients one doctor has, is stored on a hard drive with in the software. All someone needs to do to view the information, is type in the patient’s name and the information is displayed on the screen. And sending or exchanging this information is also easy.

The best thing about it, is that all the information will be legible. For example, a drug prescription cannot be read incorrectly by a pharmacist when it is printed legibly on paper. Also a doctor with critically ill patient can take care of the patient without needing to worry about legible documentation on the chart. There is no reason why a doctor would not want this type of electronic medical record software in his or her practice, especially if it enables then to send information quickly and to save lives.
