Being intent is to be fixed on something Be like an athlete ready for the battle. Be steadfast. Do not be distracted. Just as an archer aims for the bull's eye, he is intent to hit the target. Once he has fired his arrow, he rests and prepares to fire again. The focus is backbreaking. Stay focused. Emulate the athlete. Aim for the target and be totally fixed on it everyday, particularly before meals or distraction. When it is finished, take it easy and prepare for the next target. The mind can be persistent, and you will often find that it was all useless, heedless until it's too late. This occurs to everyone. It can uplift you of your resolve to be on guard. Firm decisions end mental wars. Weak decisions are meaningless. There will be circumstances when you compromise and feel you failed. Be firm. If you have made the decision to consume a bowl of food per meal, resolve to feel hungry before eating. Stick to your decision! "I am not getting pushed around any more. Food is not my master. I am steadfast. I am determined. I will not give in." The mental war ends. You are determined to succeed. Every day you have to go over the reasons to affirm the purpose of your original decision. The moment you weaken in your decision, the war begins. Do not buckle, you will succeed. Compulsion is a monstrous cycle. Emotions confuse when pain comes in: insecurity, anxiety, fear, emptiness and deprivation. These feelings will not exist if your decision is resolute.
