There are generally very good in all states, but you might have to find them. In my experience, I've found that a lot of the finer public schools are located in the Midwest, but that's just me. See how your state is ranked today. Education is important as you certainly know. Knowing your school ranking I would say is also very important. Of course there are other elements to look at but the ranking gives you a good indicator to start with.
