Warning signs, treatment and prevention in heart attack

A heart attack or myocardial infarction occurs when the heart muscle suffers because of lack of oxygen. Heart attacks are caused by the blockage on the arteries of the heart with fat deposits or plaque process known as atherosclerosis and clots of blood, which stops or slows the flow of the blood with nutrients and oxygen through the artery. During heart attack one might feel dizzy although is not a common symptom it has been observed at some people with heart attack.

Symptoms in heart attack

One of the most important symptoms is the pain felt as a heartburn which you shouldn’t ignore. American Heart Association and other experts suggest that we should pay attention to the following signals: pain, squeezing, fullness in the center of the heart, pain radiating in the shoulder and arms, burning, pressure, heavy weight. Other symptoms may be: fainting, nausea, sweating, shortness of breath, anxiety, irregular heart rate, pallor, anxiety, nervousness. If you notice any of these symptoms you should address immediately to the emergency medical services at 911 . Immediately take an aspirin, it reduces your risk of a heart attack because desintegrates the clots of blood formed that block your arteries. If you feel an intense and suffocating pain in the chest for more than 15 minutes and doesn’t stop at nitroglycerin it means that you are having a heart attack Often heart attack is slowly with mild pain and the person in cause doesn’t understand what’s happening, on the other hand the heart attack might be intense and movie-like.

New methods of treatment in heart attack

Thrombolysis, cardiac catheterization and angioplasty are the latest medical trends which may be applied in curing heart attacks in advanced technological medical centers. In such a hospital you’ll be placed an intravenous line and your heart function will be monitored, you’ll be given oxygen to breath and an EKG is always required in such cases.

Prevention of heart attack

Some of the risk factors in heart attack are: diabetes, smoking, people older than 65 years, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, atherosclerosis, stress, obesity, more males than women have heart attacks, lack of physical exercise, all those factors may be avoided and this way the chance of a heart attack is significantly reduced. Your doctor may advise you to reduce the risks of having a heart attack by quitting smoking, follow a healthy diet, maintain a low blood sugar if you have diabetes, lose weight, exercise and control regularly you blood pressure. If you pay attention to those risk factors and take into account that you may have a healthy life respecting some simple rules, heart attack will be your last worry.
