Aluminum Baseball Bats vs Wooden Baseball Bats

What benefits are there with an aluminum baseball bat? What possible advantages are there with a wooden baseball bat? This is a question that many baseball players really should consider when they are getting a new baseballor softball bat. In the following article, we will analyze the differences so that you will be able to make the decision yourself.

An aluminum baseball bat is hollow, while wooden bats are solid. This is particularly significant since it will change the weight and the center of gravity for the bat. For a wood bat, in order to make the bat longer or fatter, the bat has to also weigh more. For an aluminum bat, the shell can be made thinner so the baseball bat doesn't have to be so heavy. Because of this, an aluminum baseball bat is more flexible and provides players more options without having to get a heavier bat.

Because wooden baseball bats are solid, most of the weight distribution is in the barrel. What this means is that the center of gravity is farther from the hands. Thealuminum baseball bat is a lot more flexible and the center of gravity is able to be placed closer to the hands. Because the center of gravity is closer to the hands, the aluminum baseball bat can have a lower swing weight. The bat itself, however, may weigh the same as a wood bat. Aluminum baseball bats are capable of having a swing weight that is lower, as the bat's weight is closer to the hands. What that does is make the bat easier to swing instead of the weight and center of gravity being further removed from the hands as it is in a wood bat. Because the bat is easier to swing, the player is going to have a bat swing that's faster which results in the ball coming off the bat faster and more quickly. This is a definite benefit that an aluminum bat has over a wooden one.

One of the advantages of an aluminum bat is that the bat is able to be a lot more forgiving. You still will make contact with the baseball and get a decent hit. If the baseball is hit too close to the handle with a wood bat, it is more likely to break. This makes the aluminum baseball bat far better for hitting pitches that are inside. A lot of college baseballplayers have a difficult time transitioning to professional ball, as in college they use aluminum bats almost exclusively. Pro bats are always wooden and players have a difficult timegetting used to the weight.

One of the limitations of a baseball bat made of aluminum is that the weight distribution of the bat is more uniform. There isn't as much mass in the aluminum bat's barrel and this causes the bat to have a less effective collision with the ball. The ball will generally leave the bat more quickly with a bat that is heavier than it does with a bat that is lighter. Only the barrel of the bat has an effect on turning the baseball around andpropelling the ball back at a high rate of speed. The barrel of the aluminum bat won't have the same effect as the wood bat does. The aluminum baseball bat also tends to compress when the bat hits the ball. This effect slows the baseball as it comes off the bat. Wooden bats will not compress, but, the ball will compress and lose more energy than A bat made of aluminum.
