eTEQ.com’s The Way of The Freelancer: Closing the Deal

eTEQ.com’s The Way of The Freelancer: Closing the Deal

To many people, freelancing will always remain a mystery. The majority of those who work in an office can’t fathom not having the office essentials that keep them happy through their workweek – the shared stale coffee machine, the ever-empty candy machine, and the exciting social aspect of taking an elevator up and down with coworkers at the start of and at the end of the day. Who could ever abandon that?

You can, and you have.

Now your profile on eTEQ.com is getting you a lot of attention in your field of expertise. So how do you turn the interest from a potential client into actual work? How do you, as all great salesmen say, ‘close the deal’? Along with the list of meditations we made last week, the quality you need is to be able to see every aspect of work from start to finish – it is about being able to follow through. You don’t have a manager or boss telling you what you have to do. You are now the hunter and gatherer, the chef and the waiter – the one-person band.

The work of the freelancer can be divided into two parts; getting the work, and completing the work. While the process for both is different, the freelancer must always have completion in mind. Once work has begun, you must finish and close the circle, as a good beginning has nothing to do with how it might end.

When you’re in contact with a potential client on eTEQ.com, it is important that you build a relationship with your potential client in order to secure an offer. Follow up with them. Negotiate your rate. See what other needs they have aside from what they posted. Even if you aren’t awarded the project, make enough of an impression to have them keep you in mind for the next. This is very important for your ongoing success.

It is the same with the project you are given. Your objective to complete it must be at the forefront of your mind the moment you get your project brief and instructions. The only thing between you and the deadline is yourself. No one cares how you get the work done, as long as you get it done in time. The better you do, the more chances that you get repeat business, or a referral to a new client.

Sounds like a lot of work to get work, but once you close the deal, you’ll see how quickly you can get the project done, and how much time you will save. No office politics, no chatty coworkers or unnecessary staff meetings that suck away your time. Once you complete the work, the rest of the time is for yourself. Find more work on eTEQ.com, or spend some of that hard-earned money on your own candy machine.
