eTEQ.com’s The Way of The Freelancer: Meditations on Freelancing
eTEQ.com’s The Way of The Freelancer: Meditations on Freelancing You’re a freelancer now. You’ve posted your profile on eTEQ.com, bid on several projects, and now it’s just about waiting. Or is it? The way of the freelancer is often about staying patient, but it is also about creating opportunities and following through with them. It’s OK to take an aggressive stance and put yourself out there to be seen and heard by your potential clients. On a daily basis, freelancers and employers log onto eTEQ.com because they know what they’re getting – the best talent at the best prices. But yes, now there’s competition. How does the freelancer draw attention and become visible from the pack? There are many ways. But before adopting any strategy, the freelancer should consider the following elements to be in the right mindset: YOUR PHILOSOPHY. What is it that you take to heart as a freelancer? Fast service at low prices? 150% dedication to your employer’s cause? Whatever it is, this philosophy is your mantra, and the backbone of who you are. Write it down. Put a post-it note on your computer monitor. This is you. HONESTY. Be honest with yourself, your clients, and your goals. Are you here to take ANY work that comes your way? Or just the work that interests you? Are you in the position to turn down work? Or do you need to build your business from scratch? Knowing where you are in the big picture will help you connect to the right clients on eTEQ and grow your business. LISTENING. Your client wants oranges. You’re not going to give them lemons. The adage ‘if you get lemons, make lemonade’ does not apply to employers. It applies to freelancers. So don’t take shortcuts by doing the same thing you always do. Listen to your clients’ needs – it’ll make the work more interesting for you when you’re trying something different. FACE VALUE. Everyone’s got a website, and so should you. A website that your potential employer can visit can put you in the lead. Make sure that you spell your name or your company’s name correctly in eTEQ so that potential clients can find you online. And most importantly… Just because you’re home all the time now doesn’t mean you’re not a human being anymore! Treat yourself well, groom frequently, and keep your home clean. You work hard to live your lifestyle – and since your home is where the bulk of your work happens, you should invest in it as much as you invest in yourself.
