eTEQ.com’s The Way of The Freelancer: Procrastination – Hindrance or Tool?
eTEQ.com’s The Way of The Freelancer: Procrastination – Hindrance or Tool? I’m just going to say it – it’s a tool. A very effective tool. Allow me to tell you a story. A fellow freelancer who had just started his own business came to me a few days after he got his first client on eTEQ.com, in a panic. He spent many years just being a cog in a machine, doing a tiny piece of the work that he shared with other members of his group. He left because he knew he could do it all, and more efficiently, and for more money. But scheduling his time as a freelancer was hard. He had TOO much freedom to play with, and suddenly he found himself filling it not with the work he needed to do, but with just about everything else. Working out, shopping, video games, you name it, and he was doing it. He even started learning how to cook. He knew he could do the work, and finish it quickly. But despite his confidence and talent, he couldn’t bring himself to start. He had become a procrastinator. I had to tease him. “Welcome to having luxury problems.” That made him laugh. So what’s the solution? I said, “Procrastinate.” Seriously. Embrace it. Procrastination has negative connotations, but I argue that is exactly why freelancers produce such great work. By procrastinating, you are recharging your batteries by doing the things that matter to you and relax you. Your brain can then start with a fresh perspective. Employers looking on eTEQ.com know why freelancers are so effective – because they bring an innovative outlook and are usually a breath of fresh air. We can’t be robots – doing the same thing over and over becomes tiring, and by freelancing through sites like eTEQ.com, you are given the chance to break the vicious cycle. I have friends who procrastinate so that they feel the pressure of a deadline a bit more. I even have friends who use their freelancer work AS procrastination, from their own personal passion projects. In all cases, procrastination is a good thing. It’s time to say farewell to the negative stigma. There are many things that freelancing will bring into perspective. You’ll learn from a new set of lessons that will change the things that you always thought as scary and make them easy. Ultimately, freelancing is not just a means to make money, but a way of life that requires a new philosophy and discipline. eTEQ.com will be your source to keep you on track with your new work and your new way of life.
